The following is a description of courses and subjects being run at the Canberra campus this semester. Courses
Certificate IV in Celebrancy
Learn the necessary skills to preside at weddings and funerals. This course is will be offered with an emphasis on training Christian Leaders in non-denominational and independent organisations. More information here. Application form here.
Certificate IV in Pastoral Care
Gain a nationally recognised qualification for paid and voluntary workers employed in pastoral ministry and/or chaplaincy work within either church, community or industry organisations. More information here. Application form here.
Certificate IV and Diploma in Ministry and Theology
Gain These courses which can be studied on a full or part time basis, are designed to assist Christians to become more effective in their area of ministry through spiritual growth, Bible knowledge and a sampling of ministry development training. These courses have a strong emphasis on spiritual growth and involve practical ministry opportunities including a short-term mission trip. The Diploma year focusses on the development of leadership skills. Each course is one year in length if studied full time.

Certificate and Diploma Programs in Creative Ministries/Music
The Creative Ministries Programs at Unity College combine the study of Music courses with Ministry and Theology subjects, and have a Christian focus in terms of content and application.
Full-time students study the Certificate IV in Music course (based on the nationally accredited Music Training Package) as part of the Certificate Level Creative Ministries Program. Students completing the first year of study will also obtain a Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology.
Students undertaking the Diploma of Music course (based on the nationally accredited Music Training Package) can select to study additional Christian Ministry and Theology subjects to also complete a Certificate IV in this course area.
The programs include instrumental and vocal tution, music theory development, music industry knowledge, communication skills and a range of electives. Students apply music skills in ensembles and undertake performance and ministry opportunities in a range of contexts including concerts, worship events and short-term mission trips.
Part-time students can apply to undertake the Certificate IV and Diploma of Music courses separately to the Christian Ministry and Theology subjects.
Certificate IV and Diploma in Music
Students who enrol in the Creative Ministries program undertake a Music Major and study concurrently the nationally accredited Certificate IV or Diploma in Music, based on the Music Training Package.
Certificate in Creative Ministries (Dance)
In conjunction with the International Christian Dance Fellowship
Gain a recognised qualification in Dance ministry. This new Certificate IV in Creative Ministries (Dance) course is designed to give people opportunity to develop skills and understanding in the application of ministry through dance and movement. This is a part-time course involving online learning which can be studied after hours. More information here. Application form here.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Certificate I, II, III & IV in English Language Proficiency
Learn English as a Second language. These full-time courses are open to international and local students. The focus of all classes will be the development of general English skills including conversation, reading and written skills. More information here. Application form here.

Bible, Theology & Ministry
The Church and the Kingdom (Terms 3/4)
Explore the Kingdom of God from Matthew’s Gospel and apply it to today’s Church.
Theology of the Holy Spirit (Terms 3/4)

Pastoral Care (Terms 3/4)
God calls some to be pastors. This is more than a position, it is a ministry! Learn how to pastorally care for others. This unit will flow on from Introduction to Counselling and Support Skills.
Christian Ethics (Term 3 Semester-Intensive)
How do we live with Christian values in our world? Can Christians support war? Is there a valid case for abortion when the mother’s life is at risk? What about cloning? This subject will help you develop a framework for Christian thinking as well as assist you in developing a Christian response to key ethical issues.
Biblical Studies 4 – ‘The Gospels’ (Terms 3/4)
Further explore the implications of the Gospels for Christians today. This will be an in depth study of the 4 Gospels side by side.
Introduction to the New Testament (Terms 3/4)
Consider the New Testament writing in the context of history, geography, other religions and philosophies of the time, Jewish society and the role of the temple and synagogue. Additionally the formation of the New Testament will be studied. Special attention will be given to the gospels including consideration of the types of gospel, Jesus’ method of communication and their application for today.
Public Communication (Term 4)
Acquire skills and develop confidence to enhance your public speaking and presentations
Can you communicate on a stage confidently and effectively? Come and develop skills that will help you communicate your message in a clear, relevant and convincing manner. This subject will also cover creative presentations and the use of relevant technology aids.
Ministry of the Holy Spirit (Term 4 Intensive)
Understand the nature of the Spiritual Gifts and how to flow in their anointing.
Principles of Christian Living 1 & 2 (Terms 3/4)

The Music Industry – (Term 3/4 Intensive Series)
Covers essential industry knowledge and skills such as Copyright, OH&S and other industry information for anyone involved in music as a performer, song writer, manager, teacher etc. A core unit in the Cert. IV and Diploma of Music.
Stage Communication (Term 4)
Can you communicate on a stage confidently and effectively? Come and develop skills that will help you communicate your message in a clear and convincing manner. This subject will also cover creative presentations and the use of relevant technology aids.
General Musicianship 2 (Terms 3/4)
Do you want to grow in your ability to read and understand music? This subject is suited to those who have a limited knowledge of basic music theory and want to extend this or to students looking for a refresher course. This subject provides practical application to the student’s instrument and covers a range of music theory topics and ear training.
Contemporary Musicianship 1 (Terms 3/4)
Covers more advanced theory with particular emphasis on contemporary music styles.
