Why go straight to uni or work when you can take time out to discover your purpose before taking those next steps?

Taking a Gap Year at Unity College is about spending time hanging out with God and others, growing your faith, discovering more about yourself and strengthening your character and skills. It will also help you in the process of deciding what direction you want to take in further study and employment.

Unity College will help you develop your understanding of what you believe and why, in a great year of growing, making new friends from around the world and building life long relationships.

You will develop personal confidence, practical living skills, strong interpersonal communication, team and leadership skills and deepen your Christian worldview. You will also have the opportunity to serve on short term mission and ministry trips in Australia and overseas, to be involved in community service projects and to participate in community events and festivals.

The "Bridge the Gap" Program includes 4 main streams:

Christian Life Perspectives: Discipleship, personal growth, life skills, bibilical worldview, ethics and leadership.
Communication: Interpersonal, team building and public/stage communication
Special interest/Elective area: Choose an area of particular interest to you with options including music, creative arts, worship, prayer, ministry or Biblical studies.
Field Ministry: Community service, church ministry, outreach and cross-cultural mission trips

You can choose to do the full year program (2 semesters) or just 6 months (a single semester).

A major benefit of taking a Gap Year is an increased success rate for students in their university studies. Surveys show up to 60% of students who go straight to university after school either fail, change courses or drop out during their first year. This percentage is greatly reduced among students who take a Gap Year. The benefit of a Gap Year is recognised by many universities, with some now offering Gap Year credit towards some courses.

By taking a Gap Year course at Unity College, you can develop tertiary study skills in a less academically demanding environment than university. A strengthened faith will also assist you to face and meet the challenges presented in many university courses and work places which may not share a Christian worldview.

Depending on the subjects selected in the Gap Year program, students may be eligible to be awarded a Certificate III or Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology or a Certificate in Creative Ministries (Music). These courses are approved for Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy and International students.
